UPDATE, Thursday, June 20:  TMZ, which didn’t give me credit for breaking the resignation story because TMZ doesn’t like to give credit to anybody but themselves, got a hold of her resignation letter, where she said she hopes to get her job back once her “Bachelorette” obligations are over at the end of the year. You can read more here.

Although the Fulton County District Attorney’s office gave Andi Dorfman an opportunity to come back after her three-month stint on “The Bachelorette,” she has decided to resign instead.

Back in the spring, she was granted a leave of absence with Fulton County DA Paul Howard giving her the option to return.  In the letter he sent her in February (received by TMZ), he called her request “unusual” but nonetheless cleared it. Her leave was unpaid but she had until May 31 to get back to work.

When June arrived, she considered asking for another leave of absence through December, according to a story last week in the Daily Report. But ultimately, she decided to just leave, said Howard’s chief of staff Marla Robinson.

She had been part of the gang unit. On the opening episode of “The Bachelorette,” which debuted last month, she said, “I put the bad guys away. I love fighting crime… It’s empowering.”

According to her Linkedin profile, the Wake Forest Law School graduate joined the office as an assistant DA in November, 2012.

What will her future hold? Will she pursue media and entertainment full time like many former “Bachelorettes”? She didn’t give the DA’s office any clear indication one way or another.

On the TV show, Dorfman has narrowed the field from 25 bachelors to 11. For tonight’s episode, she flies to the south of France with the remaining men. Atlanta’s own Josh Murray (former UGA Bulldog quarterback Aaron’s bro) is still in the running and could very well end up being her beau.

On TV
“The Bachelorette,” 8 p.m. Mondays, ABC

She may as well leave her job.  She has no credibility left after such mindless posturing. What next? Who cares??

One of our most wonderful freedoms is the ability to choose what we wish to do in life. She has chosen, like so many of the self absorbed critics on this blog, who would condemn another for her choice. It is her life, let her live it the way she wants. I suspect most of you are doing the same.

Seriously, would you want to go back to work for Paul "Curly" Howard?  That clown couldn't even convict that predator that killed a judge and several others nearly 10 years ago.  It was a no brainer case.

Who gets 3 months off from work to be on a silly TV show?  Thank goodness this woman has made room for a serious employee to take her palce.

@Belle8  So what you are saying..... If the money is good, then your reputation as an attorney doesn't matter... ?  She can be the new bobblehead for a show that is MINDLESS.  A show that is clueless in how REAL relationships are formed.  A show that is strictly for the IQless american masses...  Did I get this right?

She probably has the opportunity to earn in two years what would take 20 at the DA office by appearances, promos etc.

I'm not sure I would call that a dumb decision.

What a COMPLETE waste...  A mindless TV show for the ignorant masses... Hey, why not quit your job?  Seems like the rational thing to do.... Pathetic.

Whatever her reasons, whats done is done. It may be that they ASKED HER to resign because of the negative publicity.?!?!?!?! Never know...JUST LIKE, we never know the heart/mind of another. The world today spends too much time worrying about other peoples business. This type of drama and opinion is why we have been overcome with these freaking reality shows to begin with. So, the more hype u give it, the more there will be. She is a young beautiful woman, with a whole lot of life ahead of her. YES, if she were going to leave, then it is better faster, so that another can fill her job. BUT, whatever the reason, her life. There is never a time when you should feel trapped into one thing, if you feel the calling of another...life is about living, never know where a dream may take u. BETTER YET PEOPLE>..remember the series is actually PRERECORDED, SO, she has already selected her MAN and onlything Id guess is that  it wasn't one that is from Atlanta.....

I guess her career meant nothing to her.  She would rather see where Hollywood takes her I guess.  I wonder how her husband-to-be will feel about her ditching her dream job just like that.

One may be educated but it doesn't make one smart.

Unimpressed.

BYE! Get gone. If she would've quit to begin with, her position could've already been filled by now. The DA office doesn't need B list wanna be rock stars in it. There is work to do on behalf of the people. Regardless of what she goes on to do and whatever fame and success she obtains, she'll always be a quitter,

Her credibility in the legal field is gone. Maybe she can pose for Playboy or get a job in retail.

Her life so she can do what she wants, but it sounds like she had a meaningful and fulfilling job in her pocket. She turns it away for a "chance" at love, which has a really bad track record as a show.

@metitotktodd i guess you don't have a career, just because you leave a job does not mean that you have to give up working forever. i'm sure the show is compensating her nicely for the time she is there. Either way, she is better of not ending up with you

@AtlantaGeorgia  While I don't disagree that she should have quit, what really grates me is that Paul Howard gave her a second leave of absence to go play on reality tv. He should've realized she wasn't committed at that point and made the executive decision to let her go.

@tmc Dope...  I'm not sure if that word is appropriate...  But hey, if I were her parents and had spent a dime on her education, the dope would be paying it all back...  The youth in this country seem to be all dopey.... Kinda sad really...

@tmc very intelligent comment. your parents must be proud of you...... calling someone a 'dope' on a comment section of an article..... you certainly have been the golden child

@RealKat how can you know what someone else's job was like.... wait --- you didn't go to law school???

@RealKat No, she turned it away for a "chance" at becoming a reality TV star.
