On “Scandal,” presidential hopeful and former First Lady Mellie Grant knows the issues that the American people are most concerned about. But, voters still don’t like her.
A preview clip from the upcoming episode of the show, titled “Pencils Down,” finds Olivia Pope and Associates conducting a focus group to find out what voters think of Mellie.
From hair criticisms to calling Mellie “smug,” “arrogant” and “too smart,” the focus group seems to have an issue with a few of Mellie’s personal traits.
“She might be OK if she didn’t talk,” one participant says.
Mellie is irritated, referring to the group as “idiots” and saying her campaign shouldn’t base its strategy off of their opinions.
“Their feedback all made the same point,” Olivia says. “You’re a know-it-all, Mellie.”
Will Mellie decide to “dumb it down” or will she find another way to win over the American people?
With current Vice President Susan Ross and controversial oil tycoon Hollis Doyle also running for president, this campaign is shaping up to be an entertaining one. And, elsewhere on the show, Olivia seems to be getting closer to figuring out with Jake is up to.
Scandal airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on ABC.
