Fox has given an early series order for Atlanta-based drama “Star,” which focuses on a rising local girl group. The series is created in part by Lee Daniels, the man behind “Empire.”

The pilot was recently shot in metro Atlanta and given it’s set here as well, the series itself will likely be shot here as well. Fox has provided “Star” a 13-episode first season, along with 12 episodes of “24: Legacy,” a reboot of the “24” series with an all-new cast.

According to Deadline.com, which broke the story:

Written by Daniels and Tom Donaghy, Star had been a priority for Fox, which gave it a pilot green light in August as a potential companion to the similarly music-themed Empire. Set in Atlanta, Star revolves around three talented young singers (Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady) who navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success. The series will feature original music, along with musical fantasy sequences, as the girls dream of their future.

Others on cast: Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, and Nicholas Gonzalez. Lenny Kravitz will be featured as a guest star.
