Scotty K and Bret Mega, let go earlier this year from the Power 96.1 morning show, will now be heard on rival Q100 on weekends starting Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
They had teased the return earlier this week. On Friday morning on the Bert Show, they announced their return to Atlanta – at least on a part-time basis and remotely from Texas.
Q100, seeing some of its audience erode since Jeff Dauler left last November for Star 94.1, is hoping to take advantage of some of the brand equity built up by Scotty and Bret when they were on Power 96.1. While there, they built up strong ratings among younger listeners, showing social media savvy. They left in February with their highest ratings, ranking No. 2 in the 18-34 demo.
Power management has never explained why it let the pair go and replaced them with PK and his wife DK. Riley Couture, left behind, worked for a few months with PK and DK but was recently bumped to late mornings.
“Scotty and Bret joining Q100 is an exciting addition to our crew,” said Rob Roberts, operations manager for the station. “We’ve been fans of their work for awhile and now Atlanta gets to hear them on the radio again.” (Of course, he’s referencing the FM dial. Technically, anyone with access to an IHeartRadio app could listen to Scotty K and Bret Mega any given morning.)
He said they will do fill-in work during the weekdays as well.
Q100 could use a boost. Its ratings have sagged this year. In the most recent four-week book, the station ranked 15th overall with a 3.4, ninth among 25 to 54 year olds and fifth 18-34. A year ago during the same period, they were ninth, third and second, respectively.
Scotty K, who also has gone as Scotty Kay, joined Power in March, 2014 with Bret as the producer and Riley as his co host. He’s a former professional dancer who previously worked as a night jock on a station in Chicago.
