Wendy Corona will take over Erin Coleman‘s 4 p.m. anchor job for Channel 2 Action News effective immediately.

She will be co-anchoring with Craig Lucie.

Since Coleman left in June to return to her hometown of Philadelphia where she is now working at the NBC affiliate, Corona has been filling in her place.

Corona has anchored the weekend edition of Channel 2 Action News at 6 and 11 p.m. since joining the station in January 2013.

“It takes a very special person to fill the anchor role at WSB-TV,” said WSB-TV General Manager Tim McVay in a press release. ” They must demonstrate two key qualities: a never-ending commitment to journalistic excellence and our community as well as a command of the inner-workings of a newscast. We have found that in Wendy.”

In an interview, Corona called this move “an absolute blessing. I know when people come here, they come to stay. It’s a fantastic operation. I came here as weekend anchor to get my foot in the door and see if I could hang. I’ve told our news director and general manager and colleagues that when you come to this station, you put it in another gear. I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

She initially worked with Lucie on weekends, then Matt Belanger after Lucie took over for John Bachman at 4 in 2014. Most recently, Justin Wilfon was hired for weekend anchor, replacing Belanger.  A replacement weekend female anchor will be named.

Corona sees the 4 p.m. newscast as a way to “jump start” the evening before Jovita Moore and Justin Farmer take over at 5.

Prior to Atlanta, Corona worked at stations in Houston, Dallas and Miami.

According to her biography, she was born and raised in Southern California and is the daughter of Mexican immigrants.

WSB-TV and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution are both part of Cox Media Group.
