Kordell Stewart wins $3 million defamation suit against man claiming they had slept together

A DeKalb County Superior Court judge rewarded Porsha Williams‘ former husband Kordell Stewart $3 million in a defamation case where a viral video star claimed to have a gay relationship with him.
Andrew Caldwell told a radio show in 2015 that he had hooked up with Stewart and had purchased him expensive gifts. He later retracted the comments but Stewart sued him anyway, accusing him of hurting Stewart’s career.
Stewart has fought off off gay rumors for years, even from “Real Houswives of Atlanta” and “Dish Nation” star Williams herself. He released a statement saying he wasn’t gay in 2013. Last year, he came out with a book in which he fended off those rumors yet again and told Steve Harvey the same while promoting the book.
The former NFL star and sports talk radio host last fall won a default judgment against Caldwell, who didn’t bother to show up to court.
Stewart’s attorney Antavius Weems, in a press release, when Stewart’s son was bullied over the allegations, that was “his breaking point.” “I knew that the ethical standards were gravely being violated,” Stewart said in the release. “If you want to write a story about me, contact my team and let’s get good, quality and accurate information. Bad journalism, if that is what you were calling it-will not be tolerated. And my son and family are off limits. That will get you sued. Trust me”.
Stewart said he will be filing other actions as well targeting others.
The $3 million is split between $1.5 million for general damages and $1.5 million in punitive damages.
Caldwell has not commented about the news on social media.

I just realized Andrew Caldwell is infamous on his own! He is the guy who said that he was "Not gay anymore" and that "he was deliverdt" in front of pulpit of the Church of GOD in Christ in ATL!!! The whole video went viral. He was also facing a lawsuit from the church because he was actually selling a single, called "I'm Not Gay No More"! *SMH*
He will be waiting for a while for those checks to get "delivertt". This guy is no where worth 3 million dollars...i guess he will think about lying now.thats a LOT of dough!
When he played for the Steelers, he was supposedly caught in a park with another guy. It was the talk of the town. This isn't something new. Just own it already. No big deal.
@richard Sheldon B.S. Richard. "Supposedly"? That's not a fact, dude. That's rumor. Caught by whom? If it was the police, then there would be a police report. Geez. I don't know Kordell or claim to know what his sexual preference is but your post is exactly what this guy has had to deal with for years. People can say anything. I'm glad he sued this other idiot. Keep it up, Rich, and you will be next.
Good luck on collecting that money! DeKalb County court houses are a joke! You might legally win a law suit, but the court does NOT make the loser pay you at all. It's a waste of precious time and money. They leave it up to the person who won the law suit to collect their money. What sense does it make to go to court and win a case and the courts do not take that extra mile (that tax payers are paying them to do) to collect the money? None what so ever!
@Susan89 You are out of your mind. There is no court at the local, state, or federal level that will collect on a civil judgment for a prevailing plaintiff. That is the job of the prevailing plaintiff-judgment creditor, and the law provides a number of tools to assist one in doing it, including post-judgment written discovery very broad in scope, depositions, then garnishments and levies. A judgment creditor is also legally authorized under federal law to run asset searches against judgement debtors, including searches for financial accounts. But none of those things guarantee a recovery, because one cannot get money from another that does not have it. And that is not the fault of the courts or the lawyers, in many instances it is the fault of the plaintiff that should have exercised better care in dealing with the judgment debtor (in the context of contracts, accounts, loans, etc.) in the first instance. One rarely gets to choose his tortfeasor defendant.
@Desperado As a lawyer, I don't know anyone who would use a phrase like "tortfeasor defendant." Perhaps he is a law student who interned in a collections department last summer? Also, it's a small thing, but for Dubl's edification, when referring to a person, the proper pronoun is "who" rather than "that."

The guy should have had proof! Pictures, something...you just can't say that and get away with it! It is Defamation!!! It's the law people! He may look it, act it, or may even be, however, if you don't have proof to back up what you say! It's Defamation!!!
No doubt that he is completely on the down-low and has most likely tried conversion 'therapy' which ultimately failed. It's sad on many levels that Kordell cannot be true to himself and ever more sad that Kordell used the courts to bully someone who only wishes to go public with their love for each other.
Porscha is right on this one.
@ptcrunner No, Porscha isn't right. She was just mad that he wasn't attracted to her and she seems to think she's "every man's dream". How dare he not want me.....I'm sexy....I'm gorgeous. The truth is (which has been publicized), she's dumb as a bucket of rocks and she's fake. I think Kordell realized he made a mistake and to prevent any further mistakes (such as a pregnancy) it was best to avoid any sexual contact with a dumb gold digger!!!!!! Great job Kordell. Stay away from Porscha and "many others" like her!!!
What is the point of mentioning "airhead" Porsha Williams in the story? She's as dumb as a text book with nothing written inside!!!
@AlwaysReady Hosea Williams should be turning over in his grave. She didn't know what the Underground Railroad was. She literally thought it was a train traveling on railroad tracks. Too further make matters worst, she believed there was only 265 days a year. I guess the other 100 days a year, she's looking/living in a mirror talking to herself about how "gorgeous" and "irresistible" she is.
@Really? Why? Because this wouldn't be here if he didn't marry her. Kordell stopped playing for the NFL many years ago. His connection to Porsha keeps him in "the blogs" otherwise he'd be a commentator on some network or on Dancing with the Stars. That's about it...
Sad that in 2017 being gay, or perceived as gay, in the black community is still detrimental to one's career.
Getting a judgment is one thing. Collecting the money is another thing. Does Caldwell even have the money to satisfy this judgment? lol
@Nikki Jackson It's more about principle, not money.
Stewart is not hurting in the finance department. He's not hurting at all.
And if you have to spend a few thousands to let others know that they can't say anything and everything about you--lies-then so be it.
@Nikki Jackson He would have had it if the Church of GOD in Christ didn't stop the sale of his single, "I'm Not Gay No More" with threats of a lawsuit of their own.
SOOTHSAYER01, Next you will be sued unless you know this for a fact, so you shouldn't say things unless you have proof.
You mean like you shouldn't have said Cam Newton would win last year's Super Bowl?
Or do you mean like you shouldn't have bragged repeatedly that you knew Hillary would win last year's presidency?
Well???
Which the hell is it, dimbulb?!
