A rapper released a video of former “In the House” actress Maia Campbell seeking crack at a BP gas station in Stone Mountain. She also appeared to be missing teeth.
Her former co-star L.L. Cool J saw the video and wrote on Twitter that this was not appropriate to highlight video of someone “obviously having trouble. Maybe lend a helping hand? A kind word?”
He had posted an item earlier seeking her whereabouts but that has been taken down and replaced by a simple “Thank You.”
Straight From the A’s Michelle Brown procured the video, which has now been seen more than 320,000 times in two days.
The man who posted the video of Campbell was unapologetic about it in a profane video response, which I’m not going to post but you can watch here.
A friend posted a video of Campbell responding to LL Cool J’s offer to help. She said, no thanks for help. “Don’t call me, I’ll call you,” she said. The person taping the video then got her to offer some email options or social media.
Campbell, 40, is best known for her time on the UPN/CW sitcom “In the House” in the 1990s. She has had a long history of arrests and issues with drugs. She was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which she has discussed publicly.
In 2012, she appeared on OWN’s “Iyanla: Fix My Life.”
Life coach Iyanla Vanzant told her at the time: “Maia, I want you to say this with me again: ‘I have bipolar disorder and it affects my thinking.’ You didn’t just wake up one morning with bipolar disorder. It was brewing under the surface for a long time. It’s not your fault. It’s not wrong. It’s not bad. You just think differently.”
Campbell said being off her bipolar meds caused “chaos.”
“There’s a lot of pain that goes into my story, a lot of issues with my mom. A lot of times when I was out there running the streets that I bumped into the wrong person and they brought me down.”
According to her imdb resume, Campbell has not acted much in the past ten years in film or TV. The website says she is in a film called “Doctor Impostor” that is in post production.
